Recession period and Layoffs

Yes, we all are experiencing the global meltdown since last one year now and we all are somehow victim of the recession in one way or the other. Many of my friends have lost their job or are on bench with lots of depression in their mind. Guys, don't worry, this is just a passing phase and every thing would be alright. Rather, I would tell you, this is the best time to take a deep breathe and enhance your skills. If there are any pending things that you were pursuing from long time, just do it.

Believe me, even in this recession period, it's not at all difficult to find a good job. You can definitely find a good job, just enhance your skills and come out of your shell. This is perhaps the best period to judge yourself and find out your real worth in the world. Be ready to face the challenges, stay calm and most importantly be positive.

  • Always remain positive. Bad times are not forever.
  • Always do what you believe in and never be afraid of failure as every failure is a step towards success.
  • Always be grounded and never let the success/fame go to your head.
  • Always prioritize your expenses and don't spend lavishly just to show off. Spend on things you need for yourself and not for your status in the society.
  • Never be too complacent of your position.
  • Never take huge liabilities which could spell trouble later on
  • Make a good portfolio as liquidity is important.
  • Learn... Learn... Learn.
  • Realize your potential and be positive. If you are talented, you will surely get a job.
  • Never think that bad times won't come.
  • Save some money for bad times.
  • Have an offer ready when you know the situation is getting worse.
  • Never let go of your faith in God.
  • Never lose hope. Always remain positive. Whatever has happened is good, whatever is happening is better and whatever is going to happen will be the best. Time will surely prove this.
  • Understand the law of karma: wherever you are, whomsoever you are with and whatever happens to you, for all of this, there is a reason and that is your past karma.
  • It is always better to be well prepared in a crisis situation. 'Prevent and Prepare' rather than 'Repent and Repair'.
  • Getting retrenched is something which is beyond one's control. The majority of the stress is because we try to control things that are beyond our control. Practice meditation. It really helps in experiencing peace and disciplining the mind. Most of our energy is drained due to the wasteful thoughts.
  • Use the lay-off time productively to build your inner resources so that you are up and ready for the new opportunity when it arrives.

Believe me, there is whole world open for you. Only thing is, go and explore. I really believe the phrase
"Tough time don't last longer, tough people do"

  4. Hi Swapnil,

Good Bullet Points. Following are some thoughts on them.

    * Always remain positive. Bad times are not forever.
    - Remain Positive! Many people have blood group B+ve.

    * Always do what you believe in and never be afraid of failure as every failure is a step towards success.
    - That's true that we can learn from our mistakes/failures. But it is quite painful when you gets affected from employer's mistakes/failures.

    * Always be grounded and never let the success/fame go to your head.
    - Company completely "Grounded" many of my friends! KO!!!

    * Always prioritize your expenses and don't spend lavishly just to show off. Spend on things you need for yourself and not for your status in the society.
    - Hmmm. Expenses Control over Status Quo! Software Engineers seldom to understand value of money.

    * Never be too complacent of your position.
    - I am aware of many types of positions. ;)

    * Never take huge liabilities which could spell trouble later on
    - I strongly agree with this! Just consider one of my friend's example - liabilities of parents, wife, girlfriend, children (from wife), loans (home+car+personal)

    * Make a good portfolio as liquidity is important.
    - Mutual Funds and Shares are good in liquidity. You may become a millionaire (from begger or billionaire)!

    * Learn... Learn... Learn.
    - Yadda... Yadda... Yadda.

    * Realize your potential and be positive. If you are talented, you will surely get a job.
    - Yeah, I know that I will surely get a job! Just don't know when & where!

    * Never think that bad times won't come.
    - True! Ups and Downs are part of life.

    * Save some money for bad times.
    - Yes, I strongly agree with this.

    * Have an offer ready when you know the situation is getting worse.
    - Many of my friends readily offering their services, but no employer is interested!

    * Never let go of your faith in God.
    - Himmat-e-marda, to madad-e-khuda! Asel maza hari, tar deil khatlyavari!!

    * Never lose hope. Always remain positive. Whatever has happened is good, whatever is happening is better and whatever is going to happen will be the best. Time will surely prove this.
    - What!!! I born (that's happened). I am getting older (that's happening). I will be dead (that's gonna happen). OMG!!!

    * Understand the law of karma: wherever you are, whomsoever you are with and whatever happens to you, for all of this, there is a reason and that is your past karma.
    - I don't agree with this. Sometimes good/bad things happen by chance.

    * It is always better to be well prepared in a crisis situation. 'Prevent and Prepare' rather than 'Repent and Repair'.
    - Yes, I remember my friend told me that due to my mischief, his wife has to go through abortion procedure.

    * Getting retrenched is something which is beyond one's control. The majority of the stress is because we try to control things that are beyond our control. Practice meditation. It really helps in experiencing peace and disciplining the mind. Most of our energy is drained due to the wasteful thoughts.
    - Meditation is helpful. But it is hard to do in anxiety attacks!

    * Use the lay-off time productively to build your inner resources so that you are up and ready for the new opportunity when it arrives.
    - That's exactly what managers say after kicking out someone!
